James Larry Linn Obituary

A service for James Larry Linn, “Jim,” was held 2 p.m. Oct. 9 at Hastings Funeral Home in Jefferson. Visitation was after 1 p.m. Oct. 15 with family present from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Tony Thurston of the Disciples of Christ in Des Moines provided words of comfort.

Honorary bearers were: Kevin Kick, Steve Hillman, Scott Kiner, Cecil Rueter, Jeb Ball, Dennis Jackson, Wayne Taylor, Craig Brelsford and Kent Carrick. Casket bearers were: Rich Ganoe, Fuzz Hoskinson, Buddy Herrick, Kim Rueter, Dick Nelson and Bill Hamilton. Recorded music chosen was Drink A Beer. Interment took place at Junction Township Cemetery in Grand Junction. After the service at the cemetery was a luncheon at St. Brigid Parrish Center in Grand Junction.

James Larry Linn, son of Floyd Everett Linn and Mary Cross Linn, was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Scranton and died Oct. 4 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames at the age of 78. Jim was an infant when his family moved to Rippey. When he was just 4 years old his mother passed away, then his father and sisters raised him.

He was a member of 4-H and enjoyed showing cattle at the fairs.

Jim graduated from Rippey High School in 1955. On Sept. 9, 1956, James and Shirley Jean Miner were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Rippey. The couple was blessed with three children: Christine Dian, Mark James and Rusty Gene. Jim worked at Jigs Fry’s Chevy Garage.

Mike and Jim did all the farming and chores. After high school he and Dick Nelson worked at Osmundsons in Perry. He did highway construction for Central Construction out of Indianola for 16 years as a road paver, operating the CMI machine. In 1976, Jim started working for Rueter’s for the next 17 years. After retiring, he worked for Pork Comer on his farm.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Mary, brother Mike Linn and granddaughter Jennifer Toal. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Linn, of Grand Junction; daughter Christine Linn of Newton; sons Mark Linn (Tammi) of Ames, and Rusty Linn (Tina) of Brainerd, Minn.; nine grandchildren: Danae Tuhn of Beaumont, Texas, Jessi Miller (Shane) of Lowell, ARK, James Linn of Rogers, ARK, Jeana Linn of Rogers, ARK, Ranea Bell, Roman Bell, Jennifer Toal, Joseph Toal and Jimmy Toal. Four great-grandchildren: Austin Toal , Hunter Linn, Jackson Miller and Griffin Miller; brother Paul Linn (Lorraine) of Evington, Virginia; sisters Helen Tuhn and Marjorie Shearer both of Stockton, Calif.; Barb Rogers of Redfield, Iowa; sister-in-law Kathleen Linn of Rippey nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
